Partnership Philosophy

CULTURELink is strategically involved in several areas around the globe, each with unique expressions of ministry. These partnerships are an extension of our mission: to make disciples of those who will make disciples of all nations. Each partnership is led by field leadership that meets certain criteria to work with our organization.

  • • A Partner must have strong accountability in place for the personal, spiritual, and financial aspects of the ministry.
  • • A Partner must have gospel-centered ministry, not simply a humanitarian outreach. CULTURELink embraces a holistic approach to ministry that balances the spiritual, emotional, and physical needs of mankind.
  • • A Partner’s ministry, led by nationals and/or missionaries on the field, must have clear goals and objectives. CULTURELink is committed to assisting our partners fulfill their objectives. We wholeheartedly embrace being the servants of their ministries, not the leaders.
  • •The Partner and CULTURELink leadership will conduct an annual evaluation assuring that the ministry, finances, and partnership is healthy. Both parties will determine if the partnership should continue and, if so, what the next goals will be.

Mombasa, Kenya

After attending one of our seminars in 2012, Adili Kea said to us, “The teams my family have hosted in Kenya have left many scars on our ministry. We would love humble and healthy partners. Would CULTURELink work with us to fulfill our goals for the school, students, orphans, community, and local churches?”

We led our first team later that year, and an incredible partnership was born between CULTURELink, Grace and Ngao Mazira, Adili Kea, Royal Kids School and Orphanage, the Mikindani community, and local churches. Eight short-term teams have been deployed to the Mikindani area to serve the churches, pastors, women, community, and school. Below are highlights of the growth and accomplishments over the course of our partnership.

Global Missionary Care

In 2006, Karen Ragan, the wife of CULTURELink‘s founder, partnered with various agencies to establish and lead a conference for missionary women serving across North Africa, the Middle East, and various other countries where Christianity is illegal. This very well-received conference allowed those women serving in difficult conditions to come and rest, be refueled, and be restored.

Because of this history, workers with Frontiers have asked CULTURELink to begin working with them to host these R & R conferences across the unreached and Muslim-majority regions of the world. In 2018, CULTURELink Staff began traveling to undisclosed areas to learn about and serve these workers through a conference called Groundwork. In 2020, CULTURELink will take an active role in administering these conferences, bringing teams to counsel and care for laborers in closed countries in a variety of ways.

North Africa & the Middle East

In April 2018, Larry and Karen Ragan were invited to attend a Missionary Care conference in Asia. God began to open doors for CULTURELink to train, equip, and care for Christian workers in Islamic regions, particularly in North Africa and the Middle East (N.A.M.E.). In 2020, Larry and Karen will be spending extended periods of time in N.A.M.E. countries. Many Christians in this part of the world have been persecuted, arrested, or jailed in their home countries. Larry and Karen have been invited to teach and counsel Christian workers, pastors, and their families on marriage, family, and spiritual life throughout the N.A.M.E. region. For security purposes, we are not able to disclose the specific locations or organization/workers of other partnerships in any written documents. However, we are happy to answer specific questions you may have over the phone or in person.

Our partnership with Andy Gordley in Costa Rica, who previously served with a large short-term sending organization, began with mobilizing teams and providing cross-cultural training for Gap Year students under his ministry. Andy is now developing a Business as Mission/Business for Transformation (BAM/B4T) platform to develop leaders and spur disciple-making movements in Latin America. CULTURELink’s role is to assist in the development of these disciple-making movements and equip Christian leaders to impact their communities for the Kingdom.

El Salvador

Through conducting CULTURELink training seminars at First Baptist Church of Woodstock, GA, and helping church leaders deploy healthy, strategic teams around the world, CULTURELink was introduced to—and subsequently built strong relationships with—national Christian leaders and church planters in San Salvador. In 2015, national leaders asked Ryan Hurlburt and CULTURELink to equip them to send their own short-term teams throughout Latin America. The CULTURELink staff is currently serving as mentors in the areas of leadership development and counseling. We also help develop programs to reach the marginalized in El Salvador with the hope of Jesus Christ.

Translation Project

CULTURELink has received numerous requests from across Latin America for our Help! We’re Going on a Short-term Trip! curriculum to be translated and contextualized into Spanish. Through conversations with our partners in El Salvador regarding their desire to better prepare their short-term teams, we realized the time was right to take the first steps in translating our training manuals into Spanish—all 121,000 words of the Team Leader’s and Team Member’s manuals.

One of our partners in El Salvador will serve as our lead translator. After the project is complete, he will become our primary resource as we begin training churches in El Salvador to mobilize teams all over the globe, including the Middle East. In addition to the translation, the process will also include creating an e-book version of our curriculum. This will allow for easier and more cost-effective distribution of our material across Latin America. Once the Spanish e-book is available, CULTURELink staff will begin traveling into Latin America to conduct training seminars and equip national trainers to expand our ministry.
